weekend snapshots: christmas explosion!

I hope everyone (all 9 of you) had a great holiday! I spent my first Christmas in Seattle, away from my family this year. It was sad to be away from home, but I still had an awesome Christmas! Miles and I spent the day on Whidbey Island with his family, which was so much fun! And so relaxing. I'd forgotten what it was like to have a Christmas where I wasn't making arrangements to get a ride to the airport or making sure I can fit everything into one carry on. Here are some of my favorite mini snapshots from my yuletide weekend. I made a great Christmas memory in the northwest this year, and gained about five pounds in the process.

Still, I can't wait for the next time I land home...on the manure soaked turf of the central valley. Oh well, there's always next year.

current obsession: donna wilson's new winter catalog

I read about Donna Wilson last year and immediately added her to all my favorites lists, signed up to follow her blog Leaves and Twigs, bookmarked her online store and added her name to my Google Alerts. Her colorful, creative creatures are irresistibly cute. Everything from foxes, cats and peanuts. And I mean come on, Puddle Man? It's a man, with a puddle for a head... and I LOVE IT. She could invent a little poop creature and make it look adorable. The New York Times' T Magazine just did a great write up on Donna and she was just named Elle Decoration's 2010 British Designer of the Year!

Here are some new looks and two new creatures from her winter 2010/2011 catalog. I also picked out a few of my favorites, I love the Mog plate and Robin coushion! So cute! Oh my, I think I need to cut myself off now.

The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant! Music to my little brown ears....

Last time my beloved San Fransisco Giants went to the World Series was in 2002, a series Giants fans would rather forget. If there is ever another rally monkey within a ten foot radius of me, it and its owners heads are coming right off (a rally monkey is a stuffed animal, i'm a lover of real animals that aren't super lame).

Last time the Giants won a World Series? 1954 as the New York Giants, a magical team made up of greats like Willie Mays and Hank Thompson. Now we have a new team full of awesomeness, a band of misfits that seem to belong in an early 1990's baseball movie. The wacky team with the badass closer. They came back from a mediocre season, gave their fans near heart attacks and grey hairs to make it all the way to the series and prove so many wrong. The time has come my friends, let's make the Say Hey Kid proud! Go Orange.

weekend snapshots: pumpkin party!

So just a few quick things about carving pumpkins in your 20's:

1. It's awesome. 

2. You get to pick out the biggest pumpkin you want without having to fight off your younger brothers. 

3.You're a little more responsible with sharp objects, so you and your friends can carve out super cool designs. 

4.Booze. 

Maybe numbers three and four don't always go together so well. But, turns out carving pumpkins is equally as fun in my post-college adult years as it was when I was six. Thank goodness!

So, every so often I do this thing (it's kind of my drug of choice...I'm trying to quit) where I fill up my shopping cart on my favorite websites, ignore the prices and imagine that money is no object. For a moment I feel free, invincible....like I can do anything with my Visa as my trusty sidekick. Eventually, I come down from my high and realize two months with a roof over my head trumps a pair of tan leather boots. But hey, a girl can dream right?

getting away.

Hello everyone! This is the first post of many mini ones to come! Since it's my first post, I thought it would be fun to show you guys some pictures of an awesome trip I just took.

I always forget how lucky I am to live in the Northwest. There are so many great places to explore and beautiful things to see. A few weekends ago, Miles and I went on a hike/overnight backpacking trip to Gothic Basin. Even though we (mostly...only me) almost died on the hike up...it was well worth it when we reached the basin!

All this just two hours outside of the city! It was so lovely, and so much fun! As I told Miles many times during our adventure, I am going to remember this trip. Partly because of how beautiful it was, partly because I wanted to give up on life a couple of times, partly because of the pouring rain on the way back down, and partly because of the victory burritos and ice cream we ate when we got back to Seattle.
